Ordinarily, the parents of a player for a college team show their support by attending the games and cheering for a win. Since there is nothing ordinary about Fort Valley State University (FVSU), it should come as no surprise that a parent of one of the players on the Lady Wildcats Softball Team has done the extra-ordinary.
Venetra Eldridge is the mother of Lady Wildcat pitcher and second baseman Ronkeya Garner. At a practice session on Tuesday (March 16th), Ms. Eldridge showed just how deep her level of support for Lady Wildcats Softball really goes by presenting a $1,000 check to FVSU Head Coach Jimmie Reed for the softball program.
According to Coach Reed, “While we appreciate every gesture of support for Lady Wildcats Softball, the donation by Ms. Eldridge is uniquely humbling because it highlights the fact that what we do here at FVSU as coaches and administrators is not done in a vacuum. Anytime a parent gives of her own personal resources in support of our effort to shape and mold her child, it reinforces our understanding and commitment to the critical role we play in creating tomorrow’s leaders. On behalf of the Lady Wildcats Softball Program, I sincerely thank Ms. Eldridge for the confidence that she has placed in me and my coaching staff through her contribution.”
