As announced on Wednesday, April 28th by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Men's Tennis Team has been selected
to compete in the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament. After finishing the season with an 8-9 record and placing second in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Championship, the Wildcats will join conference winner Morehouse College as representatives of the SIAC.
The preliminary round of the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament will take place on the campus of Valdosta State University on May 6-8. The Wildcats will meet Rollins College (17-9) in first round action on Thursday, May 6th. As of this release, match time had not been determined.
According to FVSU Tennis Coach Willie Foster, “While at first glance many might question how a team with an 8-9 could reach the regional tournament, for those who feel that way all they would need to do is check our regular season schedule to determine that it was our strength of schedule which justifies our selection. In preparing our schedule, I did so with the belief that including as many non-conference opponents as possible would not only elevate our level of play but would also give us the edge over other schools when regional tournament invitations were considered.”
