Fort Valley State University (FVSU) Head Tennis Coach Willie Foster could not be any prouder of his men's tennis team after they claimed the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Regular Season Championship. The Wildcats won the conference regular season title after posting a 6-0 mark in the recent SIAC Tennis Crossover held in Memphis, Tennessee. The SIAC Tennis Crossover brings together most of the conference tennis teams in one location for conference play. The crossover was designed to help conference schools contain travel cost.
With wins over Morehouse College (5-3), Lane College (5-0), Stillman College (5-3), Tuskegee University (5-1), LeMoyne-Owen College (5-0), and Benedict College (5-0), the Wildcats dominated play in the crossover as they notched their second consecutive regular season championship. “This championship is probably a little more impressive than last year's because we were without the play of our number one and two players and we are young as a team,” said Foster. “Despite having no seniors on our roster, the guys were extremely focused coming into the crossover. Tommy Williams, Dewayne White, and Brandon Pringle were outstanding all season long. Our challenge now is to keep that same focus as we get set for the SIAC Championship in mid-April.”
The regular season championship assures the Wildcats of a first round bye in the conference tournament which will be held in Atlanta, Georgia on the Morehouse College campus from April 14th through 17th.
