The Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State University wasted little time in last night's (December 5, 2011) basketball contest against Stillman College in establishing the tempo of the game.  For the Lady Tigers, it was either keep up, or get left behind!  In the end, the all consuming up-tempo offense and pressure intense defense of FVSU was simply too much for Stillman who withered down the stretch and the Lady Wildcats claimed their third win of the season, 82-58.

Now 3-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play, the Lady Wildcats were dominate in practically every phase of the game.  They forced 30 Stillman turnovers and scored 32 points off of those turnovers.  38 of FVSU's points came from play underneath the basket and the reserve players accounted for 34 points.

As a team, the Lady Wildcats made 31 of 76 field goal attempts (49.8%).  They converted seven of 24 three-point shots and out-rebounded the Lady Tigers, 53 to 42.

Three Lady Wildcats finished the game in double figure scoring with Carmenonique Dawson leading the way with 14 points.  She also had four rebounds and three assists.  Shooting guard Brandi Haynes made three of nine three-point shots and closed with 13 points.  Center Jasmine Birdsong added 12 points.

The win by the Lady Wildcats puts the magic number now at three for Head Coach Lonnie Bartley to reach a career milestone of 600 wins.  Now at 597 wins, he and the Lady Wildcats will go for win number 598 on Sunday, December 11th, when they host the Lady Panthers of Claflin University in the HPE Arena on the FVSU campus.  Tip-off for the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match-up is 4 p.m.  Admission to the game is free of charge.
