A Living Legacy

Founded over 100 years ago, Fort Valley State University embraces a history that weaves together African-American culture, a commitment to personal and intellectual growth and a deep sense of community. The beautiful campus is located on 1,365 acres in picturesque Peach County. It is a place of exciting change and growth. Small class sizes, an affordable tuition rate, relevant course offerings, accessible professors and administrators – FVSU has everything you want in a college experience including proximity to Georgia cities such as Atlanta, Columbus, Augusta, Albany, Savannah, Valdosta and your hometown.

What students of every era have found here is unequaled leadership across a wide scope of programs. Our status as a land-grant university has led to remarkable innovations in agriculture and related fields. Our acclaimed Biology Department and Chemistry departments help Fort Valley State University send more students of African descent to medical and dental school than any other state school in Georgia. And our comprehensive liberal arts curriculum continues to set new standards of excellence. Keeping up with technological advances, we offer top-notch online programs and the opportunity to keep abreast of FVSU goings-on through Facebook and Twitter. We have an excellent relationship with the city of Fort Valley and surrounding areas. Our communiversity efforts bridge the gap between town and gown, bringing the community on campus for regular events to showcase our students’ achievements.

A Proud Tradition

With an enrollment beyond 4,000, our school is the perfect size for building lifelong ties that go beyond race and background - ties that are based on a shared love of learning and thirst for personal growth. We’re family here. Everyone belongs. Our more than 70 student organizations and activities range from a thriving sorority and fraternity system to conference-leading athletic teams, from honor societies to student government. Fort Valley State University’s stately campus is the ideal environment for one-on-one learning, but we also encourage connections to the world around us, both near and far - through close ties with local communities and study abroad programs that trace ancestral bonds halfway around the globe. We are growing and building; new apartment-style residence halls, a new stadium, and a state-of-the-art learning facility for our science programs. Check the Web site regularly for updates on these projects.

FVSU is a leading contender in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and the National Collegiate Athletic Association Division II in both men’s and women’s athletic programs. Wildcat football, basketball, tennis, track, volleyball, cross country track and softball are among the 11 sports offered. The Health and Physical Education Complex, the site of sports events and memorable special activities, is rated among the finest in the conference and is equipped with an Olympic-size swimming pool, weight room and indoor track.
