FORT VALLEY STATE WINS IN OVERTIME 71-69 OVER STILLMAN

Box Score FORT VALLEY, GA (January 11, 2014) – Senior forward Shytina Harley (Tampa, FL) scored the winning basket on a jumper with
2 seconds remaining in the game to give Fort Valley State University (5-8; 3-1) the two point overtime victory 71-69 over the Lady Tigers of Stillman College (4-10; 0-4) Saturday, January 11 at the HPE Complex.

The Lady Wildcats led at halftime 39-23, while shooting 35.5 percent from the floor and 75 percent at the line. Stillman hit 23.1 percent from the field and 45.5 percent in free throws. Junior forward Carmenonique Dawson (Thomasville, GA), junior guard Antionna Jefferson (Opelika, AL) and senior forward Briana Shepherd (Birmingham, AL) had 6 points each and Dawson and Brittnee Hazel gained 6 rebounds apiece.

For the game FVSU scored on just 29.7 percent of their shots, while making 70 percent at the free throw line. Stillman hit
33.3 percent from the floor and 40 percent at the line.

In overtime the Lady Wildcats went 2-of-11 for 18.2 percent from the field and 2of-4 at the free throw line for 50 percent.

FVSU had three players to post double-double, with Harley led the way with a game-high 16 points and 10 rebounds. She scored on 6-of-7 shots from the field, hitting 4-of-6 free throws, blocked 3 shots and two steals. Shepherd and Dawson had double-doubles with Shepherd grabbing 12 rebounds and 10 points and Dawson scoring 11 points and 10 boards. Jefferson added
14 points and junior guard D'Ambria Thomas (Pelham, GA) dished out 5 assist.

Stillman outscored the Lady Wildcats 40-24 in the paint, 35-23 off turn overs and 14-2 on fast break points and FVSU made
25 points to 7 on second chance shots and 48-23 points from bench players.

Samantha Thomas scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to lead the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Wildcats will host Miles College at 6 pm on Monday, January 13 at the HPE Complex.
