VALDOSTA, GA (November 14, 2014) – Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats (0-1) drop basketball season opener 64-75 to the University of West Georgia (1-0) in the Holiday Inn Classic on Valdosta State University campus on Friday, November 14.
Junior forward
Katice Williams (Augusta, GA) scored 14 points to lead the Lady Wildcats in scoring, while hitting 5-of-7 field goals, 1-of-1 three's and 3-of-4 at the free throw line. Senior forward
Carmenonique Dawson (Thomasville, GA) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and senior center
Brittnee Hazel (Loganville, GA) grabbed a team high 7 rebounds, before fouling out in the second half. Senior point guard D'ambria Thomas (Pelham, GA) dished out 3 assist and 5 boards.
Marion Lemonnier led UWG with 21 points and Taylor Beverly had 17 rebounds.
FVSU hit 12-of-32 (37.5%) field goals in the first half and 14-of-34 (43.8%) in the second half, while scoring on 40.6% of baskets for the game and 62.5% (10-16) free throws.
For the game, FVSU outscored UWG 36-28 in the paint, 12 -6 points off turnovers, 19-11 on second chance shots, 6-0 on fast breaks and 24-19 points from bench play.
FVSU will play Valdosta State on tomorrow at 6 p.m.
