AUGUSTA, GA (January 16, 2016) – Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats (4-12; 3-4) had two players to place double-doubles in their 68-65 win over the Lady Lions of Paine College (5-10; 3-6) Saturday afternoon in the HEAL Complex of Paine's campus.
FVSU scored while hitting 26-of-73 baskets in Saturday's game, making two threes and scoring from the free throw line on 14-of-20 shots. Paine made 19-of-51 shots from the floor, two baskets from behind the arc and 23-of-33 foul shots.
The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Lions 38-28 in the paint, 24-17 off turnovers, 12-4 on fast break points, while both teams scored 9 points each on second chance shots.

Katice Williams and junior forward
Shereba Montgomery posted double-doubles. Williams led the team in scoring with 15-points and 11 rebounds, as she hit 5-of-7 baskets, went 5-for-6 at the foul line, one assist, blocked one shot and one steal. Montgomery added 12-points and 11 rebounds, making 5-of-11 shots from the field, went 2-of-4 at the line, one assist, one steal and blocked three shots. Senior guards

Ashley Watts led the Lady Lions with the game-high 20-points and Janisha Wilkerson's 16. Tannasia Rhodes and Milalia Wallace pulled down 7 rebounds apiece.
FVSU out rebounded Paine 47-33 and turned the basketball over 16 times to 21. Paine had 8 blocked shots to FVSU's 5.
In the first and second periods, Paine and FVSU went back and forth for the lead as Paine took a 35-32 lead to the locker room. The third and fourth periods belonged to the Lady Wildcats, Williams layup gave FVSU a 41-39 lead with 7:04 left in the period. With 8:18 to go in the fourth period, Montgomery made two free throws to give the Lady Wildcats their largest lead 59-49 and another 61-51 and 63-53 with 5:02 remaining. Paine continued to fight back and tied the game 65-65 with 1:39 left. Williams layup and made free throw completed the scoring and 68-65 win.
Next game: The Lady Wildcats travel to Columbia, SC and Orangeburg, SC on January 21 to play Benedict College at 6 p.m. and January 23 to take on Claflin University at 1 p.m.
