FORT VALLEY, GA (November 25, 2016) – Senior forward
Shekiyah Tarpkins (Social Circle, GA) scored a team-high 19-points for Fort Valley State (0-5; 0-1)in the 91-59 loss to Livingstone College (2-3) last night in game one of the Jessie A. Brown Memorial Classic at the HPE Complex.
Tarpkins was the only Lady Wildcat to hit double digests while making 7-of-10 basket from the field, making one three, going 4-of-6 at the free throw line, six rebounds, passing three assist and four steals. Freshman forward
Alexia Green (Fort Valley, GA) grabbed nine rebounds, blocked one shot and scored six points, while junior guard
Chantelle Rumph (Sanford, FL) dished out four assist and eight points.
Zena Lovette led Livingstone with 23-points and 16 rebounds and made 10-of-10 foul shots.
Tarpkins jumper in the first quarter with 2:14 to go gave the Wildcats their largest lead of 12-points (18-6), but the Blue Bears closed that to two-points (19-17) with six second left. LC's Ari Dejesus layup tied the game at 19 with 8:58 left on the clock in the second quarter. The Wildcats went to half down 29-31.
Brittany Taylor's two free throws with 2:58 left in the game put the Blue Bears up by the largest margin of 36 points (84-48) and the final scored being 91-59.
The Lady Wildcats will face the Tigers of Benedict College at 3 p.m. on Saturday, November 26 and Livingstone College to take on Miles College at 1 p.m.
