MEMPHIS, TN –The Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State (0-14; 0-6) ended the year with a 67-55 loss to LeMoyne-Owen College (7-5; 4-3) Saturday evening at the Bruce-Johnson Hall Gymnasium on LeMoyne-Owen's campus.
Alicia Franklin scored 15-points to lead the Lady Wildcats while hitting 4-of-5 free throws.
Nola Carter grabbed nine rebounds and
Amiah Height added 11-pointers before fouling out after 34 minutes of play.
Dana Gettis led LOC with a game-high 18-points and Tenesha Wright had a game-high 11 rebounds.
Carter led the Lady Wildcats on a 7-0 run with her two free throws, before LOC's layup at the 3:28 mark in the first quarter. FVSU ended the quarter up by 3 (9-6).
With 9:25 left in the second quarter, LOC tied the game at 9-9. Carter quickly regained the lead at 11-9 on a layup. Then, Franklin's three-pointer increased the Lady Wildcats lead by 6 (18-12) with 6:43 remaining before halftime. LOC's Dana Gettis' three-pointer put the Lady Magicians up by 2 (22-20) and the lead heading to intermission.
It was a different story for the Lady Wildcats in the third quarter, as the Lady Magicians went up by 12 (40-28) and finished the quarter up 46-35.
FVSU's
Keaundra Cox and
Taesha Cook-Pirtle would cut the lead to eight two times before ending the game at 55-67.
The Lady Wildcats will play Lane College in Jackson, TN on Monday, January 1, 2018, in a 2 p.m. contest.
