Wolves Take Fourth Quarter, Prevail over Wildcats

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats opened their home schedule with their best showing of the early season. After leading by four heading to the final quarter, Fort Valley State had its toughest 10 minutes of the night at the worst time as West Georgia rallied for the 65-55 women's basketball Tuesday night victory.
 
Coming out of the half, FVSU (0-6) doubled up West Georgia (3-1) in the third period, 15-8, behind Nyah Dismukes eight points to go ahead 47-43. The Wolves reversed the trend in their favor in the fourth quarter, 22-8, where they went to the line for 12 points and saw the Wildcats hit only 2 of 14 from the floor and commit nine turnovers for the 10-point come from behind win.
 
Freshman Wildcat Torri Myers finished with top honors of all scorers as she hit 7 of 13 attempts and a pair of treys for 18 points to go with five rebounds. Nola Carter made 5 of 10 from the floor for 12 points and pulled down 10 boards for a double-double along with three steals and two assists.
 
Dismukes netted all her eight points in the third quarter, including a triple. The first-year FVSU player also had a season-best eight assists. Leading scorer Alicia Franklin was held to eight points, while Kaylin West chipped in seven points, all in the first half, off the bench.
 
West Georgia received 10 points apiece from A'Kia Harris and Aysha Harris to lead its charge.
 
The Wolves opened an early seven-point lead, 14-7, late in the first period a Myers 3-point play cut the difference to 18-15.
 
Following an even second quarter, the Wildcats tied the contest three times in the first 4:34 and opened a two-point, 41-39, lead on a Dismukes free throw. West Georgia tied it for a fourth time, 41-41, before Carter and Myers netted back-to-back buckets for a 45-41 home lead. Dismukes third basket of the quarter gave FVSU its 47-43 lead after three.
 
The Wolves raced out into the fourth quarter with the first 11 points for a 54-47 advantage and never led by less than three points in the final five minutes.
 
FVSU stays at home and opens Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 24, against Kentucky State. Tip is set for 1 p.m.
