Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Push to End, but Badgers Prevail at SIAC Tourney

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – In a game, the Wildcats fought and fought and was in position for a win with a few breaks down the stretch. Fort Valley State pushed until it was four points early in the fourth and again with 37 seconds, but Spring Hill held on to prevail, 67-62, in the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament First Round.

Spring Hill (12-15) led by as many as 13 points three times in the third period, before the FVSU (6-20) charge started to end the period and cut the deficit down to seven points. The Wildcats kept the momentum early in the fourth as an Alex Booker jumper made it 47-43 with six minutes, before they had to stage another rally try. Alicia Franklin made it a four-point game both with 37 seconds, 63-59, and 20 seconds, 64-60, but FVSU could get no closer.

"We were scrappy the whole game," said acting head coach Kareem Kenney. "We started a little slow and we didn't capitalize on some opportunities in the first half. We were able to keep it close, but we didn't make the best decisions on the court. Our girls kept fighting to the end."

Nola Carter led the Wildcats charge with 19 points on 6 of 10 shooting to go with five rebounds and four steals. Franklin added 12 points, eight boards and three assists. Off the bench,
Myers chipped in eight points and four rebounds and Nyah Dismukes finished with six points, seven points, three assists and three steals.
