Wildcats Topple Cougars Women's Basketball

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – For the first time in past seasons, the Wildcats sit at the .500 mark in January. Fort Valley State made it three wins in a row to start 2020 as it toppled Carver College, 100-77, Wednesday night in women's basketball.
 
The Wildcats raced out to a quick 8-0 lead in the opening minute and led 15-2 after three minutes and never were challenged in the game. FVSU netted 32 points in the first quarter and scored at least 21 points in every frame on the night.
 
With the win, FVSU improved to 8-8 on the year, two more wins than a year ago for the season.
 
The Wildcats put four players in double figures with freshman Taziha Fanning having high honors with a season-high 22 points on 9-for-11 from the floor to go with six rebounds.
 
Nola Carter made half of her 14 shots for 19 points along with seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Jada Sleet and Nikki Culbreath, who had nine rebounds and three helpers, added 17 and 16 tallies. Senior Ashley Bearden contributed four points and four rebounds off the bench.
 
Carver College's Imari Hightower led all scorers with a 35-point night.
 
The Wildcats return to Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon, Jan. 18, against the Tigers of Savannah State. Tip time is 1 p.m.
