The Wildcats (9-10/5-5 SIAC East) put together what turned out to be a game-deciding second quarter where they outscored the rival Golden Rams of Albany State, 29-13. The FVSU halftime lead of 46-30 was enough as the double-digit lead never went below the final eight-point margin, 75-67.

With the victory, FVSU halted a two-game losing run and moved back into a tie for second place in the SIAC East at 5-5. The Wildcats were 4-2 in the January part of their schedule and seek to hit double figures in victories for the first time since back-to-back 10-17 seasons in 2015-16 and 2016-17.

Paine College dropped to 6-11 overall and 5-5 in the SIAC East with a Monday night (Jan. 27) road loss at Savannah State, 81-61. The Lions have claimed victories in two of their five January matchups, including a home win (Jan. 18) over Albany State (76-62).

The two SIAC East members split the two meetings last season with each winning on its home court – FVSU won 78-60 in Jan. 23 in Fort Valley, before Paine took a 62-54 decision on Feb. 9 in Augusta. The Wildcats recorded its last win in Augusta two years ago on Jan. 10, 2018 via a 66-58 final.

Individuals of Note:
Wildcats freshman forward Taziha Fanning posted one of the top two-week periods in the SIAC and in recent years for FVSU by averaging 18.5 points and 13.0 rebounds in the last four games along with making 29-of-38 attempts for an astounding 76.3-percent.

Paine's Keondra Archie stands 6th in the SIAC in scoring at 16.5 ppg and pulls down 6.0 rebounds per night.
