Carter Voted SIAC Women’s Basketball Player of the Week Second Time

2/4/2020 2:05:00 PM

ATLANTA, Ga – In the midst of her best season of her career, the Wildcats leading scorer earned her second league award. For the second time this season, Nola Carter of the Fort Valley State women's basketball team was voted the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Week.

In FVSU's lone game a week ago, Carter was not only a key cog in the win, but she also hit a career milestone in the meantime. Nola became the second Wildcats (10-11) to surpass the 1,000-career point plateau last Saturday (Feb. 1) at Paine College when she hit a jumper 2:25 into the second quarter. The senior from Jacksonville, Fla., though, kept her best for later in the game when her shot with 1:59 left in the game started the Wildcats scoring the final nine points in a 68-58 victory.

In the game, Carter finished with a team-best 19 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including a 3-pointer, to go with six rebounds, four assists and two steals.

On the year, the forward leads FVSU at 12.8 ppg, 104 field goals made, 82 assists and 42 steals. She has posted three double-doubles, including a 21-point, 16-rebound and 7-assist outing against LeMoyne-Owen (Dec. 19). Nola now stands with 1,020 points in her four-year career.

FVSU next has its rematch with SIAC-leader Benedict College on Saturday afternoon, Feb. 8, in a 1 p.m. game in the HPE Arena.
