Wildcats Rattle off 18-Straight Points, Run Past Golden Rams

ALBANY, Ga. – In the first of an extremely busy week, the Wildcats could not have finished stronger. Fort Valley State rattled off 18-straight points, including 16 to start the fourth quarter, and ran past Albany State women's basketball, 67-49, on Tuesday evening.

Amiya Allen banked home a layup with 16 seconds in the third frame, before the Wildcats (5-5) took complete control by adding 16 more points in a row over the first 5:09 to start the final 10 minutes and a 62-42 score. Torri Myers scored three of the final four buckets of the run for six of her 13-point night, while Jah'ne Brown started and finished the outburst for five of the 16 tallies.

Diamond Jones paced FVSU over the first half with 12 of her game-best 19 points, which included five steals. Brown missed a double-double by a rebound at 16 points and nine boards. Myers made 6-of-11 attempts for 13 points and eight rebounds. Allen chipped in seven points, all in the second half on 3-of-3 shooting.

The Wildcats outrebound the home team, 53-38, and made over 10-percent more of their field goals in the final two quarters.

Kierra York and Bri'elle Johnson contributed 13 points apiece for ASU.

Trailing 37-35, Brown made a 3-point play to push FVSU ahead, 38-37. ASU answered with the next basket to regain the short lead, 39-38. Allen laid in an offensive put back with 2:28 left in the third, before she added the final two points of the frame to begin the 18-point FVSU game-deciding run.

FVSU returns back to ASU as the two rivals play another contest on Wednesday night, March 3, in another 5:30 p.m. tip. The Wildcats have Thursday off before they play another pair of added games at DI Alabama-Birmingham Friday afternoon and host Benedict College on Saturday, March 6, at 2 p.m. to complete the regular season.
