JACKSON, Tenn. -- The Wildcats were a second away from continuing their recent success. After an Aaniyah Allen free throw gave Fort Valley State a lead with under two seconds, Lane College had the final answer at the buzzer to steal the women's basketball Monday evening victory, 54-53.
FVSU (3-3/3-1 SIAC East) held a slim 42-40 advantage after 30 minutes before Lane ran off the opening eight points of the final stanza for a new lead, 48-42, only 2:34 gone. Following a Taylor Addison jumper to pull the visitors within three points before Caly Cage downed a triple to tie the contest at 52-52 with 35 seconds setting up Allen's free throw 33 ticks later.
Allen led the FVSU charge with 11 points to go with four rebounds, five assists and four steals. Shekinah Rachel contributed 10 points, eight boards and four steals on the inside, while Addison chipped in 11 points off the bench.
Brailyn Tate had top Lane honors with 12 points.
FVSU will now be off until it plays an exhibition game on Saturday, Dec. 9, at Central Georgia Tech in Bonaire, Ga., starting at 1 p.m.
