Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Wildcats Have Tough Night Against Lady Panthers

ATLANTA, Ga. – The Wildcats could not keep its first-quarter output going Monday evening. Fort Valley State had tough middle quarters and suffered a tough women's basketball night in an 83-46 decision at Clark Atlanta.

Camryn Oneill netted the first jumper of the game and gave FVSU what would be it lone lead of the night. Clark Atlanta put up the ensuing eight points, won the second quarter by 14 points and did not give up a third-frame field goal of the contest.

FVSU (6-12/3-9 SIAC East) trailed by only 20-16 after 10 minutes and sank only three foul shots in the third quarter in the difficult contest against Clark Atlanta (15-5/10-3 SIAC East).

Off the bench, Aaniyah Allen downed 4 of 8 from long-range as part of her 17 points to go with three rebounds and an assist. Kimora Wade led the starters with 13 points and she pulled down four boards and stole a pass.

Marley Bell clutched 10 caroms, but she only netted two points. Oneill chipped in four points. Cori Barnes sank a trey and had four rebounds. Arienonna Booker added three free throws and stole two passes. Ja'Nya Ferguson pulled down seven rebounds and had one layup, while Ace Stevenson rounded out the effort with two points.

Atreonia Garner led the home Lady Panthers with 13 points.

After CAU ran off eight points in a row following Oneill's opening bucket, FVSU pulled back to within two, 8-6, as Oneill had another basket of the six points. A Wade layup with 3:01 made it only a one-point Wildcat deficit, 12-11, and Allen equaled it with two free throws, 14-13.

The Lady Panthers came out fast in the second 10 minutes with a 10-0 run and the Wildcats didn't get back closer than 10 points, 32-22, with 6:22 in the second quarter the rest of the way.

FVSU aims to rebound on Saturday evening, Feb. 1, in a 4 p.m. tip at rival Albany State.
