FAIRFIELD, Ala. – Fort Valley State University Women's Basketball (0-3, 0-2 SIAC) took a tough road loss to Miles College (3-1, 2-0 SIAC), falling 91-40 on Saturday afternoon.
Miles opened the game with a free throw and a layup to take a 3-0 lead.
Reya Johnson put the Wildcats on the board with a free throw to make it 3-1, but the Golden Bears extended their advantage to 8-1 before a layup by
Makayla Arnold cut it to 8-3. Miles continued to control the pace and carried a 21-9 lead into the second quarter.
The Golden Bears pushed their lead to 30-9 early in the second frame. Johnson knocked down a three-pointer to halt a nine-point Miles run, making it 30-12. The teams traded baskets down the stretch, and FVSU entered halftime trailing 41-20.
Miles opened the third quarter with a 12-0 run, broken up by another Johnson free throw to make it 53-21. The Wildcats added points throughout the period, but the Golden Bears maintained momentum and took a 68-31 lead into the fourth.
Johnson scored the first basket of the final quarter on a layup, but Miles continued to build on its lead.
Madisyn Ogburn ended another Golden Bears scoring stretch with a pair of free throws to make it 86-36. Arnold and Ogburn added late points to trim the deficit to 88-40 before a Miles three-pointer in the final minute set the score at 91-40.
Johnson led the Wildcats with 12 points on three field goals and a 5-for-8 performance at the free-throw line.
Aaniyah Allen followed with 11 points, including a 6-for-7 effort at the stripe. Arnold rounded out the top scorers with eight points on 50% shooting.
Arnold also paced FVSU on the glass with six rebounds—four on the defensive end—while Johnson added five boards.
The Wildcats return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25, traveling to Allen University for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
