Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Chris Myers

Lady Panthers Push Past Wildcats in Final Period

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – The Wildcats were primed for the upset with under eight minutes to go. After Fort Valley State pulled within two points, Clark Atlanta pushed its way to a 21-0 game-deciding fourth-quarter run and captured a 72-52 women's basketball decision.

After trailing by as many as eight points in the third period, FVSU pulled to within one, 50-49, on a Arieonna Booker jumper at 1:27. Makayla Arnold made the first point of the final stanza and the Wildcats were back within two, 52-50, at 7:57. Everything turned dark from there. FVSU (8-13/4-10 SIAC East) missed its next eight shots from the floor and one foul shot along with five turnovers. Clark Atlanta (17-5/11-3 SIAC East) took advantage with a 21-0 run in that 6:41 timeframe. Camryn Oneill made a bucket with 1:06, but it was too late for a home comeback.

In coming back from down six at intermission, FVSU made half of its third-quarter shots at 6 of 12. The Wildcats shooting touch evaporated to a tune of 1 for 13 in the last 10 minutes and 0 for 12 over the first 8:54 of the frame. CAU was 13 of 28 for the second half from the field.

Marley Bell guided the FVSU effort with a 6 for 12 day, including a 3-pointer, for 14 points to go with five rebounds, four blocked shots and an assist.

Oneill chipped in nine points and six assists, while Aaniyah Allen added eight rebounds, seven points, four assists and four steals. Cori Barnes, Ja'Nya Ferguson, who had seven rebounds, and Taylor Addison each contributed five points. Kimora Wade, Booker and Ace Stevenson had two tallies apiece.

Corriana Evans made 10 of 13 field goals for 21 points as Clark Atlanta's top scorer.

FVSU will have this week off before it hosts Allen University next Saturday afternoon, Feb. 15, in a 1 p.m. tip-off.
