JACKSONVILLE, Fla.—Fort Valley State University Women's Basketball (2-12, 2-10 SIAC) dropped a 72-34 decision on the road at Edward Waters University (10-5, 8-3 SIAC) Saturday afternoon.
Edward Waters jumped out quickly, scoring 28 unanswered points in the opening quarter.
Reya Johnson opened the second quarter with FVSU's first three-pointer, and
Aaniyah Allen followed with a layup to put the Wildcats on the board. The Tigers answered with a pair of baskets to extend their lead, but the Wildcats continued to battle and trailed 38-13 at halftime.
Coming out of the break,
India McIntosh sparked the Wildcats' offense with back-to-back jumpers and a free throw to make it 38-18.
Aaniyah Allen added the final points of the third quarter for FVSU with a layup, but Edward Waters closed the frame with eight straight points to lead 57-22 heading into the fourth.
The Tigers opened the final quarter with a three-pointer before
Julia Baker knocked down a jumper to respond for FVSU. With under eight minutes remaining, the Wildcats posted four straight points on a
Julia Baker layup and a pair of free throws from
Aaniyah Allen, and
India McIntosh later added a late layup, but Edward Waters secured the 72-34 victory.
India McIntosh led the Wildcats with nine points on four field goals, while
Aaniyah Allen followed with eight points on three made shots and a 2-for-3 performance at the free throw line.
Reya Johnson paced the team on the glass with nine rebounds, while
India McIntosh added seven boards.
The Wildcats are back in action on Monday, Jan. 19, when they return home to host Clark Atlanta University at 5:30 p.m.
