Wildcats Take Loss to Allen at Home

FORT VALLEY, Ga. – Fort Valley State University Women's Basketball (1-10, 1-8 SIAC) fell 89-39 to Allen University (8-4, 7-3 SIAC) Saturday afternoon in HPE.

Allen scored the game's first four points before Aaniyah Allen got the Wildcats on the board with a pair of free throws to make it 4-2. The Yellow Jackets closed the opening quarter on a 6-0 run to take a 12-2 advantage.

Allen opened the second quarter with a fast-break layup to extend the lead to 14-2. Aaniyah Allen again halted the scoring with a made free throw before Madisyn Ogburn knocked down FVSU's first three-pointer of the contest, trimming the margin to 25-8 with just over four minutes remaining in the half. Kimora Wade followed with a tip-in layup for the Wildcats' first consecutive baskets of the game. Makayla Arnold capped the half at the line as FVSU went into the break trailing 35-12.

The Yellow Jackets opened the third quarter with a layup, answered by an Aaniyah Allen three-pointer to bring the score to 37-15. The teams traded baskets for the remainder of the quarter, with Ogburn closing the period by converting a pair of free throws. Allen carried a 62-27 lead into the final frame.

The fourth quarter began with an Allen layup, countered by three straight made free throws from the Wildcats. The Yellow Jackets continued to add to their total, closing the contest with an 89-39 victory.

Aaniyah Allen was the lone Wildcat in double figures, finishing with 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting from the free-throw line while adding four field goals. She also led the team with three steals. Reya Johnson, Kimora Wade, and Madisyn Ogburn each contributed five points. Makayla Arnold and Kimora Wade paced the rebounding effort with seven boards apiece, while India McIntosh added six.

The Wildcats return to action Monday, January 5, hosting Benedict College at 5:30 p.m. in HPE.
