Fort Valley State University Athletics took its commitment to developing the next generation of student-athletes beyond campus, making a special visit to Marion County High School for an impactful evening of education, leadership, and community engagement.
Led by Director of Athletics Daphnie L. Johnson, a few of the Wildcats athletic department coaches met with student-athletes, parents, coaches, community leaders, and stakeholders from Marion County, Webster County, and the West Central Georgia Alumni Chapter to provide valuable insight into the journey of becoming a successful collegiate student-athlete.

Joining  Johnson were Kisha Lucette, Director of Compliance; Head Football Coach Marlon Watson; Head Women's Basketball Coach Latoya Jones; and Head Men's Basketball Coach Brandon Britt. Together, the group shared their expertise on topics ranging from NCAA compliance and eligibility requirements to the academic, athletic, and personal responsibilities that come with competing at the collegiate level.

The event was hosted in partnership with "It Takes a Village," a community initiative led by Cal Myers and local coaches that brings students together each Friday for leadership development, motivational speakers, and friendly basketball competition. The program emphasizes mentorship, character, and preparing young people for success both on and off the court.

The visit reflected Fort Valley State Athletics' commitment to serving communities throughout the region while helping future Wildcats understand the expectations and opportunities that come with pursuing higher education through athletics. By engaging directly with students and families, the Wildcats continue to strengthen relationships and inspire the next generation to excel in the classroom, in competition, and in life.
