Andrea Williams

Entering her second year in 2020, Andrea Williams has the Fort Valley State women’s basketball program heading in the right direction after solid first year directing the Wildcats.

After taking over the program’s reins on October 1 of 2019, Williams guided FVSU to wins in two of her first three games on the way to the program’s most wins in six years with a 13-14 finish. The first-year head coach directed the Wildcats to a home upset of nationally-ranked and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament and East Division champion Benedict College, a sweep of rival Albany State and a victory over regionally-ranked West Georgia.

With the 13 season wins, FVSU posted a 6.5-game improvement from the previous season in Williams’ first year. Her inaugural Wildcats squad also led NCAA Division II in offensive rebounds (19.8 rpg) and third in rebounds per game (48.1 rpg). Senior Nola Carter led her team and earned All-SIAC Second Team honors.

Williams came to Fort Valley State to take over and build the program after being part of two NCAA Division I staffs -- Indiana University Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) in Fort Wayne, Indiana (Summit League) and Oakland University in Michigan (Horizon League).

Teams coached by Williams have defeated major collegiate programs and launched the professional careers of players she has mentored. She is no stranger to postseason and tournament play, having helped coach teams, which made it to the NCAA Division II national tournament and the NCAA Division II Elite Eight, in addition to a NCAA Division I WNIT championship.

Affectionately known as "Coach A," Williams also served as the head coach of the U.S. Air Force Academy (USAFA) women's basketball program. While she was coach of the Falcons, the team defeated nationally-ranked teams, including Colorado State, University of Nevada-Las Vegas, Fresno State, and Boise State.

Prior to her work at USAFA, she served as an assistant coach at the University of South Florida, Jacksonville University, the U.S. Naval Academy and the University of Tampa. At Jacksonville University, Williams was part of the Dolphins coaching staff, which defeated talented teams including the University of Miami, Florida, and Florida Gulf Coast University.

Williams began her coaching career at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania, followed by a head coaching role at Waynesburg University (Pennsylvania).
