Jason Bryant

Entering his fourth year, Fort Valley State head softball coach Jason Bryant has the program on a true building upswing.

Taking over a Wildcats team with a two-year combined record of 6-57 before he came to The Valley, Bryant has already turned the program into a Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference upcoming contender. In fact, the FVSU coach had his Wildcats atop the SIAC Eastern Standings at 3-1 upon the abrupt ending to the 2020 campaign, which made the team the Division champs if the title were to be awarded.

Just a year ago in 2019, Bryant's second edition was guided the Wildcats to their first SIAC Championship Tournament appearance in five years and the most victories (18-24) since 2011. Taking over a struggling program, Bryant has his program at a good 40-49 mark with two double-digit seasons, which would have been most assuredly a third in a regular-length 2020 season, and now stands with over 400 college softball coaching victories.

In his first three years at FVSU, Bryant also served as the women’s volleyball head coach. He helped Nia Bell and India King garner the first Wildcats’ All-SIAC honors with both being named to the 2019 Second Team.

A native of Anniston, Ala., Bryant came to Fort Valley State after 16 years of at Brewton Parker College. With the Barons, Jason coached the women’s volleyball team for 15 years where he won 209 games, two South Division titles and made two trips to the NAIA National Championship Tournament.  Bryant notched his 200th career win in volleyball on September 8th, 2011 over Clark Atlanta University.

Coach Bryant was the softball head for Brewton Parker for 13 years. He compiled 369 wins directing the program and collected his 300th win over FVSU on March 4th, 2013 in a 1-0 final. Bryant was named the Southern State Coach of the Year in 2004. The long-time coach also served a year as the College’s Dean of Men.

Jason served as Director of Athletics at Robert Toombs Christian Academy, as well as, Men’s Basketball and Baseball Head Coach. Then, in 1998, he was named the Georgia State Coach of the Year.

Bryant attended Westside High School in Augusta, Ga., and went on to play basketball at Tomlinson College in Cleveland, Tenn. Jason holds a master’s degree in Theology.

Jason is married to Jill and they have two sons (Jordon and Jevon), one daughter (Haydon) and two grand daughters.
