In their bid to raise their season record to 7-7 and up their conference mark to 7-5, the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU) had to overcome the feisty Dragons of Lane College who entered the game with just one regular season win. Played on the Lane College campus, the January 19th match up was the final game of a six-game road trip for the Wildcats. It took 40 minutes of regulation play and a five minute overtime period for FVSU to leave Jackson, TN with a 73-63 win.
The teams were virtually even in the first twenty minutes of play. Leading 28-27 at halftime, the Wildcats converted 10 of 30 shots in the first half compared to 10 of 24 shots made by the Dragons.
The same was true in the second half. FVSU scored 30 points in the half while the Dragons scored 31 points. Of the 30 points scored by the Wildcats, perhaps none were bigger than the six scored by Britain Kelly in the last minute of regulation. His two three-point baskets inside of a minute tied the game at 58 and sent it into overtime.
In the five minute overtime period, sophomore
Joshuah Davis led the Wildcats with 10 points to secure the FVSU win. Davis finished the game with 13 points. Kelly finished with 15 while
Brandon Davey closed with a game-high 16 points.
The Wildcats complete the six-game road trip with four wins and just two losses. They return to Fort Valley, GA for a six-game home stand which begins on January 24
th against the Bears of Miles College at 8 p.m. in the HPE Complex. Admission to the game is free of charge.
