The Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU) entered their match-up with the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College on January 26th with a three-game win streak in tow. When the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) game was over, so was the Wildcat win streak with a 73-68 loss.
One of the primary reasons the Wildcats lost the game was the shooting performance of the Magicians. Their 48% (14 of 29) shooting effort in the first half combined with a 61% (14 of 23) second half made things difficult for the Wildcats. Despite the difficulty, FVSU played inspired basketball.
In the first half, the Wildcats made 12 of 32 shots (37.5%) but trailed by five points at the intermission, 35-30. A better shooting second half (13 of 27 for 48%) by the Wildcats allowed them to match the 38 point half of the Magicians. The difference in the game was the Wildcats inability to convert free throws. For the game, FVSU made just 15 of 29 free throws.
Corey Hunter led the Wildcats in scoring with 17 points while Desmond Lofland finished with 11 points. Teshawn Byron led the Magicians with 15 points.
