The Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU) were eliminated from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II South Region Basketball Tournament on Friday, March 9th after a 59-47 loss to the Lady Blazers of Valdosta State University (VSU) in the quarterfinal round.
After scoring the game's first points, the Wildcats never trailed in the first half. While neither team shot particularly well, the seven field goals, one three point basket, and seven free throws was enough for FVSU to claim a halftime lead of 22-14. The Lady Blazers managed only five baskets and four free throws through the first 20 minutes of play.
While the poor shooting continued for the Lady Wildcats in the second half, the Lady Blazers overcame their shooting slump. Connecting on 13 of 19 field goal attempts (68%), four three-point baskets, and 15 of 19 free throws, VSU outscored FVSU in the second half, 45-25.
Of the 47 points scored by the Lady Wildcats, Yasheeka Jones was responsible for almost half of the total. She concluded your career at FVSU with a game-high 21 points. She also finished with two rebounds, three assists, and three steals.
Lady Wildcats close the season with a 23-7 overall record.
