COLUMBUS STATE DEFEATS WILDCATS 83-78

Box Score FORT VALLEY, GA (December 2, 2013) – Senior guard Joshuah Davis (Augusta, GA) and senior forward Corey Hunter (Cincinnati, OH) put up a game-high 17 points each in Fort Valley State University (3-4) loss to Columbus State University (4-1) Monday night 78-83 at the HPE Complex.

During the game, Hunter grabbed 7 rebounds and made 6-of-8 free throws, while Davis scored on 4-of-7 three's and 1-for-1 at the line. Senior forward Brandon Davey (Warner Robins, GA) led the team in rebounding with a game-high 13, 9 points, 2 assist and 2 blocks, while senior forward Nigel Domineck (Stone Mountain, GA) added 14 points, 9 rebounds and blocked 2 shots. Junior guard Mario Black (Warner Robins, GA) chipped in 11 points, 4 rebounds, as senior Point guard Anthony Bell (Detroit, MI) dished out a game-high 6 assist.

Columbus State University was led by R. J. Sessions with 14 points and DeAngelo Kirkland's 11 rebounds and 12 points.

The Wildcats shot 44.1% from the field and 70% at the foul line in the first half and CSU hit 47.4% of their shots and made 61.8% from the free throw line. The teams went to the locker room tied at 44. In the second half FVSU hit just 29.3% of their shots and 43.8% in free throws and CSU scored on 34.5% from the floor and 66.7% at the line.

For the game both teams shot below 50 percent as FVSU made 27-of-75 (36%) shots from the floor, 10-of-32 (31.3%) from 3-point land and hit 14-of-26 (53.8%) free throws. CSU faired a little better hitting 41.8% (28-of-57) of its shots, 28.6% (6-of-21) in threes and 61.8% (21-of-34) at the foul line.

The Wildcats largest lead of 8 points can at the 13:32 mark in the first half and CSU gained a 7 point lead with 3:23 left in the second half. CSU outscored FVSU across the board with a 36-22 point margin in the paint, 21-20 points off turnovers, 23-19 points on second chance shots and 41-29 point advantage from players off the bench.

FVSU next game is Wednesday, December 11 as the travel to Columbus, GA for a re-match game with Columbus State at 7:30 p.m.
