Wildcats eliminated from tournament after loss to Thorobreds

In the first round of men's action of the 2013 Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) Basketball Tournament, the Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (FVSU) squared off against the Thorobreds of Kentucky State University (KSU) on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 26th) in the Forbes Arena on the campus of Morehouse College. In their only meeting during the regular season, the Wildcats defeated the Thorobreds 76-64.

The teams played fairly even in the game's first 20 minutes of play with the Wildcats holding a 25-22 lead at intermission. FVSU shot 34.5% (10 of 29) from the field in the first half while KSU managed on 25% (8 of 32). Ulysses Thomass, III and Joshuah Davis led the Thorobreds and Wildcats in scoring respectively in the first half. Thomass had nine after 20 minutes of play while Davis closed the half with eight points.

The second half was just as close. With five points being the largest lead to separate the two teams, KSU led 58-55 with :32 remaining and was able to fight off the last ditched effort by the Wildcats to keep their season alive. The Thoorobreds hung on to advance to the quarterfinals with a 60-57 win.

Davin Anderson led the Thorobreds in scoring with 13 points and six rebounds. Thomass finished with 10. Brandon Davey had 13 points for FVSU and Joshuah Davis finished with 12.

The Wildcats close the 2012-13 season with an 8-19 overall record. The Thorobreds will meet the number two seed from the East, the Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College in quarterfinal action on Thursday, Feb 28th at 3:15 p.m. in the Forbes Arena on the Morehouse College campus.
