FVSU LADY WILDCATS BEAT MILES AND LEMOYNE-OWEN IN SIAC CROSSOVER

FRANKFORT, KY (September 20, 2013) – Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats volleyball team has picked up its pace by winning two conference today. They defeated the Lady Golden Bears of Miles College in game one 3-0 (25-16, 25-15, 25-17) and the Magicians of LeMoyne-Owen College 3-1 (22-25, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23) in the night cap. Today's volleyball action took place in Frankfort, KY at the SIAC Volleyball Crossover Tournament.

FVSU overall record improves to 4-12 and 3-1 in the SIAC.

Junior middle hitter Briana Shepherd (Birmingham, AL) led the team in game one with 14 kills, 2 aces and 6 blocks, while freshman setter Karil Brown (Columbus, GA) had a game-high 19 assist. Victoria Ingram led all with 12 digs.

Miles was led by Reaucheandr Matthews with 5 kills and 5 digs.

In game two, freshman outside hitter Antonia Minnigan (Columbus, GA) had 10 kills, 1 dig and 1 block, junior middle hitter Chovanna Isaac (College Park, GA) and junior outside hitter Markeya Price Stockbridge, GA) added 9 kills apice. Brown stepped up with 28 assist and 11 digs, while Victoria Ingram chipped in 11 more digs.

The Lady Magicians had three players with 10 kills (Dontavia Rucker, Zantrell Brown and Bethony Cousin) and Alesha Humphrey with 32 assist.

The Lady Wildcats will face Tuskegee University and Stillman College tomorrow at 10 am and 6 pm.
