LADY WILDCATS WIN 84-66 OVER PAINE

Box Score FORT VALLEY, GA (January 18, 2014) – The Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats (7-9; 5-2) defeated Lady Lions of Paine College (6-9; 4-2) 84-66 Saturday night, January 18 at the HPE Complex.

Junior guard Antionna Jefferson (Opelika, AL) led FVSU at halftime with 9-points and FVSU led 40-28. FVSU scored on 47.2 percent of its shots and 50 percent at the line. Paine made 29.4 percent of their shots and 60 percent in free throws. For the game FVSU made 33-of-74 shots for 44.6 percent and 11-of-18 free throws for 61.1 percent, while Paine hit 24-of-74 shots from the field and 13-of-22 foul shots at 59.1 percent.

FVSU led Paine with from points in the paint 30-26, 29-16 points off turnovers, 20-8 points off fast breaks and 39-28 points from bench players, while Paine had 19-10 points on second chance shots, and out rebound the lady Wildcats 50-49.

Jefferson led the Lady Wildcats with a game-high 19 points, junior forward Brittnee Hazel (Loganville, GA) had 16 and senior forward Shytina Harley (Tampa, FL) added 12. Junior guard D'Ambria Thomas (Pelham, GA) and senior forward Briana Shepherd (Birmingham, AL) had 8 rebounds each, as Thomas had a game-high 8 assist.

Ashley Watts led Paine in scoring with 18 points and Ariel Brown with 7 rebounds.

The Lady Wildcats will host the Lady Tigers of Benedict College on Monday, January 20 at 6 p.m. in the HPE Complex.
