FORT VALLEY, GA (November 20, 2014) – Senior forward
Brittnee Hazel scored 16 points in Fort Valley State's (1-3) 77-68 loss to the Lady Cougars of Columbus State University (3-0) Thursday night at the HPE Complex on FVSU's campus.
For the game, FVSU shot 36.8 percent (25-68) from the field, 27.8 percent (5-18) in 3-pointer and 68.4 percent (13-19) free throws. CSU made 27-of-74 (36.5 percent) shots on the floor, 9-of-33 (27.3 percent) trays and 14-of-23 (60.9 percent) foul shots.
FVSU scored on 13-of-33 (39.4 percent) baskets in the first half, while hitting 22.2 percent in 3-pointers and making 3-of-4 (75.0 percent) foul shots. The Wildcats in the second half hit 34.3 percent (12-35) in field goals and 66.7 percent (10-15) free throws. The Lady Cougars hit 33.3 percent of their shots from the field in the first half and 83.3 percent (5-6) at the foul line. The team scored on 40.0 percent from the floor in the second half.
FVSU sophomore forward
Briunca Caldwell's free throw gave the FVSU their largest margin 12-9 in the first half with 12:42 left, but CSU's Brea Walker would tie the game at 12-12 with 12:02 to go. Senior
Brittnee Hazel free throw tied the game for a third time at 19-19 with 7:45 left. With 3:08 remaining Ariel Johnson sank a three to increase the Lady Cougars lead by 8 point.
In the second half, with 4:57 to go, Dee Dee Deshazer's made a 3-pointer to increase CSU lead by 13 point. The Lady Wildcats clawed back to score 9 back-to-back points to close the gap to four (63-67) with 3:31 remaining.
Hazel scored on 7-of-12 shots from the field, 2-of-3 free throws, 4 rebounds, 2 block shots and 4 steals. Senior guard
Antionna Jefferson added 14 points, while making 4-of-9 three's and 2-for-2 at the foul line. Senior forward

Shereba Montgomery posted 7 points on a 3-for-3 night from the floor. Senior forward
Katice Williams grabbed a team-high 8 boards.
Britteny Tatum led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 16 points, Carrie Washington 14, Brea Walker 12 and Dee Dee Deshazer 10 points. Washington posted a game-high 23 rebounds.
The Lady Wildcats are back in action on Saturday, November 22 at 1 p.m., as they host Florida Tech University at the HPE Complex.
