ALBANY, GA (November 30, 2014) – Fort Valley State Lady Wildcats closed out their thanksgiving road trip with a 81-61 loss in the Peach Belt/SIAC Challenge at Albany State University in Albany, GA., in a non-conference matchup with Georgia Southwestern University (4-0), as FVSU dropped to 1-7 overall on the season.
Senior forward
Carmenonique Dawson scored a team-high 12 points and 6 rebounds to lead the Lady Wildcats and senior guard
D'Ambria Thomas added 10 points, 5 rebounds. Junior guard
Iyuna Dugger posted 10 points on the night, while senior center
Brittnee Hazel grabbed a team-high 9 boards, 7 points and 3 assist. Red-shirt sophomore
Shereba Montgomery went 4-for-4 at the free throw line totaling 6 points and grabbing 6 rebounds.
Tiara Thompson led Georgia Southwestern with 20 points and 10 rebounds and Emili Russ pulled down 10 boards. Danisha Green handed out 8 assist and blocked two shots.
FVSU shot just 26.3 percent from the field on 20-of-76 shots for the night, 64.5 percent on the line while making 20-of-31 foul shots. The Lady Wildcats made only 1-of-19 three pointers.
Georgia Southwestern made 28-of-64 (43.8 percent) shots from the floor and 23-of-39 (59.0 percent) free throws.
FVSU out rebounded Georgia Southwestern 56-49, but had 32 turnovers to 26 for Georgia Southwestern.
The Lady Wildcats will travel to Morrow, GA on Wednesday, December 3, to play Clayton State University in a 5:30 p.m. matchup. Their next home game is Saturday, December 6, at 6 p.m. as Georgia College & State University come a calling.
