LADY WILDCATS WIN SECOND GAME OF SEASON OVER BREWTON-PARKER 80-44

FORT VALLEY, GA (December 15, 2014) – Fort Valley State placed three players in double digits in 80-44 win over Brewton-Parker College Monday night at the HPE Complex on the campus of FVSU.
 
FVSU improves their overall record to 2-9, while Brewton-Parker drops to 2-11 overall and 0-2 in conference play.
 
The Lady Wildcats shot 45.2 percent from the floor (14-of-31) in the first half, while the Lady Barons made 7-of-32 shots (21.9 percent).
 
FVSU's senior guard Antionna Jefferson jumper at the 14:21 mark gave the Lady Wildcats a 15-0 lead, before Brewton-Parker's Antonise Harper layup made the score15-2 with 13:00 left in the half.
 
At the 8:06 mark senior center Brittnee Hazel's jumper gave the Lady Wildcats their largest lead of 16 points (21-5) on a 6-3 run.
 
BPC went on 9-0 run to close the gap to 21-14 on Aliah Burrows free throw with 4:06 left to half.
 
In the second half, FVSU scored on 19-of-38 baskets from the field (50 percent) and BPC hit 30.8 percent from the floor (8-of-26).
 
FVSU went on a 16-3 run in the second half increasing the 49-23 lead on junior forward Katice Williams layup with 13:50 remaining. BPC's jumper by Briana McClain made the score 49-25 with 13:24 left.
 
Tierra Axom's jumper with 7:06 left on the clock for a 55-36 score and as close as the Lady Barons would get.
 
Senior guard Davina High's 3-pointer with 28 seconds left added to FVSU's 25-8 run to increase the score to 80-44.
 
For the game, the Lady Wildcats made 33-of-69 shots for 47.8 percent in shooting, while the Lady Barons hit 25.9 percent of their baskets (15-of-58).
 
FVSU scored on 11-of-18 free throws (61.1 percent) and BPC made 70 percent of their foul shots (14-of-20).
 
The Lady Wildcats had 48 rebounds to BPC's 38, while the Lady Barons turned the basketball over 30 times to FVSU's 22.
 
Junior guard Iyuna Dugger led the Lady Wildcats with 13 points, while making 5-of-7 baskets, 3-of-3 free throws, 2 assist and 2 steals. Senior guard Davina High posted the only double-double with 12 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. High scored on 4-of-6 field goals, 2-of-4 three's, 4-of-4 foul shots, 4 assist and 5 steals. Hazel added 10 points and 6 boards. Senior guard D'Ambria Thomas dished out a game-high 5 assist and scored 8 points, while red shirt sophomore forward Shereba Montgomery and junior guard Tonisha Wilson added 8 points each.
 
Briana McClain led BPC with 19 points, as she made 5-of-21 shots from the floor and scored on 9-of-12 free throws. Kenyarda Durden and Antonise Harper grabbed 7 rebounds apiece.
 
The Lady Wildcats are off until January 3, when they host the Lady Dragons of Lane College in their first SIAC contest at 1 p.m.
