Box Score FORT VALLEY, GA (February 8, 2013) – The Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats (11-11; 8-4) was not able to get back-to-back wins over the Lady Tigers of Benedict College (16-7; 10-3) as Benedict wins 66-51 on Saturday afternoon in Columbia.

Junior guard Davina High (Atlanta, GA) had 9 points going to half while down 22-29. She made 3-of-5 field goals and 2-of-4 in three's, as the team shot 25.0 percent from the field, 50.0 percent in three pointers and 42.9 percent at the free throw line. Maya Nelson hit 8 for Benedict.

Junior guard Antionna Jefferson (Opelika, AL) started the scoring with a tray (3-0), then Benedict went on a 9-0 run (3-9). Junior forward Carmenonique Dawson (Thomasville, GA) tied the game at 9 with 13:00 left and senior forward Briana Shepherd's (Birmingham, AL) jumper made it 11-9. Benedict's Santera Grooms 3-pointer put Benedict up 12-11, before going on a 21-11 run with 5:30 left. High's layup with 3:37 remaining cut the margin to 16-21 and later 22-29 on High's two made 3-pointers with .6 second left.

Shepherd and junior forward Brittnee Hazel (Loganville, GA) led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 12 points each. Shepherd went 5-for-5 at the foul line and Hazel grabbed 6 rebounds and blocked 3 shots. High added 9 points and 4 steals and junior guard D'Ambria Thomas dished 4 assist.

Ashley Thompson led Benedict with a game-high 13 points and Santera Grooms and Jessica Ellison scored 12 points apiece. Thompson and Grooms had 8 boards each.

Benedict added the first 6 points of the second half increasing the lead to 35-22. FVSU's Shepherd made layup and free throw at the 18:18 mark cut that lead to 10 (25-35). Benedict then jumped out to their largest lead of 14 points with 13:19 to go 41-27.

The Lady Wildcats made 16-of-59 shots and went 16-of-26 at the free throw line, while Benedict scored on 22-of-48 shots and 14-of-19 foul shots. Benedict grabbed 45 rebounds to FVSU's 35.

The Lady Wildcats return home to host the Lady Panthers of Claflin University on Saturday, February 15 at 6 pm.
