Carmenonique Dawson (Thomasville, GA) led the Lady Wildcats of Fort Valley State University (13-14; 9-7) with 11 points and a 71-69 victory over home foe Miles College (10-17) Monday afternoon as the team advance to the second round in the SIAC Basketball Championship.

Brittnee Hazel scored ten points each and
Davina High added seven rebounds and Washington hit 4-of-4 free throws and Hazel blocked four shots. FVSU will play the #1W seed Lady Tigers of Tuskegee University on Wednesday at 5:30 pm.
Javonne Brown led Miles with 24 points and 12 rebounds and Enria Samuals and Tiffany Stephens added 16 and 12 points.
FVSU shot 31.1 percent from the field in the first half while leading 36-32 at halftime. The team made 53.8 percent of their foul shots.
Miles scored on 35.5 percent of their shots, while hits, while hitting a hot 88.9 percent from the free throw line.
Miles jumped out to their largest lead of six points on a layup by Javonne Brown, before Harley's jumper gave FVSU a 21-14 lead.
Miles Brown tied the game at 32-32 before the half, but
Kiara Baker's jumper would send the Lady Wildcats to half up by four.
In the second half, FVSU's Hazel made a layup for a seven point lead with 11:00 remaining. Brown for Miles tied the game for the fourth time at 67-67 with 2:01 left, and then FVSU's
Davina High's layup put the team up by two.
Miles Wendy Miller layup cut the lead to one 70-69 with .17 seconds on the clock, but with .05 seconds remaining Dawson missed the front of two free throws and made the second to give FVSU the 71-69 win.
The Lady Wildcats finished the game by making 27-of-76 shots for 35.5 percent and 16-of-28 free throw shots for 57.1 percent. Miles made 25-of-67 shots for 37.3 percent shooting and 80.0 percent at the line while making 16-0f-20 free throws.
The Lady Wildcats grabbed 50 rebounds to Miles 49 and outscored Miles 40-36 on points in the paint, 28-11 points off turnovers, 21-15 points on second chance shots, 14-6 points on fast breaks and 30-2 points from players coming off the bench.
