LADY WILDCATS DEFEAT STILLMAN 54-50

TUSCALOOSA, AL (January 10, 2015) – Senior forward Carmenonique Dawson (Thomasville, GA) led Fort Valley State with her first double-double as the Lady Wildcats defeated Stillman College 54-50 Saturday afternoon at Birthright Gymnasium.
 
The Lady Wildcats improve overall to 4-11 and 2-2 in the SIAC. Stillman fell to 1-11 and 1-3 in conference play.
 
Dawson pasted FVSU with a team-high 11 rebounds and 12 points while scoring on 5-of-8 baskets, making 2-of-3 three pointers, adding two assist and two steals. Senior center Brittnee Hazel (Loganville, GA) scored a team-high 15 points, hit 5-of-6 free throws and three steals. Senior guard Davina High (Atlanta, GA) and senior point guard D'Ambria Thomas (Pelham, GA) added 8 and 7 points. High was perfect at the line going 4-of-4 for the night. Thomas went 3-of 5 at the foul line and stole three balls.
 
Samantha Thomas led Stillman with a game-high 18 points, 11 boards and Joclyn Ramos grabbed game-high 13 rebounds and 11 points.
 
FVSU shot 40 percent from the field in the first half (10-25) and 62.5 percent from the free throw line. They made 34.6 percent from the floor for the game (18-52) and 65.2 percent at the foul line.
 
Stillman made 11-of-37 baskets (29.7 percent) and 8-of-14 foul line shots (57.1 percent) in the first period. For the game, the Lady Tigers shot 27.1 percent from the field (19-of-70) and 55 percent at the line.
 
Stillman grabbed 51 rebounds to FVSU's 40. The Lady Tigers out-scored FVSU 32-18 in the paint, 13-7 points off second chances shots and 17 points from players off the bench to FVSU's 11. The Lady Wildcats scored 22 points to Stillman's 18 off turnovers.
 
Next game: Lady Wildcats will travel to Tuskegee, AL on Monday, January 12th to play Tuskegee University at 5:30 p.m.
