TUSKEGEE, AL (January 12, 2015) – Senior center
Brittnee Hazel (Loganville, GA) added a double-double game-high 10 rebounds and 16 points in Fort Valley State's (5-11; 3-2) 70-47 win over Tuskegee University(1-10; 1-3) Monday night at the Chappie James Center.
FVSU scored on 17-of-32 shots from the field in the first half (53.1 percent) and just 37.5 percent at the free throw line. The Lady Wildcats made 46.4 percent of their baskets for the game (26-56).
TU shot just 28.6 percent in the first half (8-28), while making 18-of-64 shots from the field in the second half (28.1 percent).
Hazel made 7-of-11 baskets, blocked 4 shots, passed 3 assist and stole 3 balls, while senior forward
Carmenonique Dawson (Thomasville, GA) led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 18 points. Dawson scored on 6-of-10 shots from the floor, sank 4-of-6 three pointers and grabbed 6 boards. Senior guards
Davina High (Atlanta, GA) and
Antionna Jefferson (Opelika, AL) added 9 points each. Jefferson led the team in assist with a game-high 6.
Rachel Brownlee led TU in scoring and rebounding with a game-high 23 points and 9 rebounds.
FVSU led TU by 25 points with .42 seconds left in the game. The Lady Wildcats outscored the Lady Tigers 30-10 in the paint, 22-14 off turnovers, 10-6 on second chance shots and 24-10 on points off the bench.
