FORT VALLEY, GA (January 15, 2015) – Senior center
Brittnee Hazel (Loganville, GA) led Fort Valley State (6-11; 4-2) with a double-double in scoring with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds in their 79-42 victory over Miles College (2-8; 1-4) Thursday Night at the HPE Complex.
Hazel scored on 10-of-17 baskets, hit one 3-pointer and blocked 5 shots. Junior guard
Tonisha Wilson (Douglas, GA) came off the bench to score 16 points, hitting 5-of-7 shots, made 4-of-5 baskets from behind the arc and made 2-of-2 free throws. Senior forward
Carmenonique Dawson (Thomasville, GA) added 10 points, 5 boards, went 3-for-4 at the line and passed out 5 assist. Senior guard
Davina High (Atlanta, GA) dished out a game-high 6 assist and senior guard
Antionna Jefferson (Opelika, AL) made 9 points.
Porshia Blue led Miles with 16 points and 11 rebounds.
The Lady Wildcats led by as much as 10 points, while going to half up 32-24 and shooting 50 percent from the floor (13-26), 4-of-7 in threes (57.1 percent) and 50 percent at the free throw line (2-4). For the game, FVSU shot 49.2 percent on the floor (30-61), scored a team high 10-of-18 three's (55.6 percent) and 75 percent at the foul line (9-12).
Miles hit 30 percent from the field (9-30) and 50 percent at the line (4-8). The Lady Bears shot 22.9 percent for the game (16-70) and 46.2 percent at the foul line (6-13).
FVSU out rebounded the Lady Bears 48-43, with the Lady Wildcats turning the ball over 17 times to Miles 20 and FVSU dishing out 21 assist to 9. FVSU outscored Miles in all areas by scoring 28 points to 16 on points in the paint, 20-2 points off turnovers, 10-0 on fast break points and 37-7 on bench points.
