COLUMBIA, SC (January 24, 2015) – The Fort Valley State University Wildcats (1-15; 1-8) could not stop the bleeding as they drop 4 straight games and 15
th overall in a 69-81 loss to Benedict College (8-7; 6-3) Saturday afternoon in Columbia.
At halftime, both teams were notched at 35, but BC added 46 points to FVSU's 34 in the second half for the win.
In the first half, FVSU made 41.9 percent of its baskets (13-31), 46.7 percent in 3-pointers (7-15), while going to the foul line only 4 times for 50 percent. For the game, FVSU scored on 25-of-62 shots (40.3 percent), 9-of-25 threes (36 percent) and 10-of-15 foul shots (66.7 percent).
The Tigers shot 50 percent from the field (13-26) for the half and 42.9 percent at the line (6-14). They made 53.7 percent from the floor for the game and 56 percent in free throw shooting (14-25).
Senior forward
Tyrone Brinson (Savannah, GA) led three Wildcats in double figures with 16 points, while adding 5 boards and two threes. Senior guard
De'Mario Black (Warner Robins, GA) and J.R. Bryant (Macon, GA) chipped in 10 points each. Junior center
Ralph Wilson (Americus, GA) grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds and 9 points, as he made 5-of-8 free throws.
BC's Deonte Johnson scored a game-high 19 points on 7-of-9 baskets and 5 boards, while Andrew Crawford had 8 rebounds.
Both teams finished with 36 rebounds apiece, with BC holding the edge on points in the paint 22-18 and each having 12 points each off turnovers.
The Wildcats return home on Thursday, January 29 to host Claflin University in an 8 p.m. game.
