MIDDEDGEVILLE, GA (November 17, 2015) –
Katice Williams help keep the game close all night with her double-double of 15-points and 10 rebounds as Fort Valley State University let a close game get away Tuesday night 53-58 to Georgia College Lady Bobcats at the Centenial Center.
The Lady Wildcats fall to 0-3 on the young season and Lady Bobcats improve to 2-1.
Kiara Baker scored the first basket at the 6:21 mark in the first period for FVSU 2-0. Georgia College Kadesha Gibbs tied the game 2-2 with 5:19 left.
The first period ended with GC up 11-6 over FVSU and game being tied three times and one lead change.
GC led by 8 (19-11) with 3:25 left in the 2
nd period before taking a 21-15 lead to half. The Lady Bobcats outscored the Lady Wildcats 6 - 2 in the paint and FVSU 6 - 2 off turnovers over GC.
With 5:55 left in the 3
rd period Denequa White tied the game 21-21 for the fourth time, then
Paige Alexander's jumper put the Lady Wildcats up 23-21. GC's Veronica Ryan 3-pointer would give the Lady Bobcats a 31-30 lead as period end.
Shereba Montgomery tied the game for the 14
th time 51-51 with 2:45 left, but the team would not get closer than 4-points.
Williams hit 6-of-12 baskets and made 3-of-5 free throws while picking up 3 steals.
Jayme Gilbert added 9-points and dished out 3 assist for the Lady Wildcats.
LaRice Walker led the Lady Bobcats with a double-double 10-point and 10 rebounds.
For the game, FVSU made 31.9% (22-69) of their shots and went 5-of-15 (40.0%) at the foul line, while dishing 7 assist and picked off the ball 18 times.
GC hit on 37.7% (20-53) from the field and made 16-of-26 (61.5%) at the free throw line.
The Lady Wildcats outscored GC off turnover points 17 to 6, 2
nd chance points 11 to 7 and bench play 35 to 26. GC had 45 rebounds to FVSU 41 and the Lady Bobcats turned the ball over 29-times to 24 for the Lady Wildcats.
