FORT VALLEY, GA (November, 20, 2015) – The Fort Valley State University Lady Wildcats drop their fourth game on Saturday at home to non-conference foe Southeastern University 49-61.
The Lady Wildcats record fall to 0-4, while the Lady Fire improves to 4-0.
Southeastern jumped out to an 18-point (23-6) lead in the first quarter, as they led 20-2 with 1:13 remaining. The Lady Fire went to halftime up 32-18. Junior forward
Shereba Montgomery (Abbeville, GA) had 6-points and 6-rebounds for FVSU and Ali Sanders scored 10 for Southeastern in the half.
FVSU came out in the third quarter pressing the Lady Fire by closing the gap 38-44 at the .27 mark and would not get closer than 5-points for the game.
Montgomery led the Lady Wildcats with her first double-double 11-points and a game-high 13 rebounds and senior guard
Jayme Gilbert (Montezuma, GA) adding 11-points. Senior forward
Katice Williams (Augusta, GA) added 7 boards and freshman point guard
Ricarsha Johnson (Thomasville, GA) and freshman guard Rayneshia Clay (Covington, GA) grabbed 6 rebounds apiece.
Alyssa Ramos scored a game-high 23-point for Southeastern, while Sanders and Christin Strawbridge had 7 rebounds each.
FVSU hit just 24.4% (20-82) shots from the floor and shot a poor 5-of-14 (35.7%) at the foul line. They made only 3-of-10 free throws in the first half.
Southeastern made 19-of-50 (38.0%) from the field, 40.0% (10-25) from behind the arc, while hitting 13-of-17 (76.5%) free throws.
The Lady Wildcats out rebounded Southeastern 54-45 and outscored the Lady Fire in scoring in the paint 28-14, 22-12 off turnovers, 15-8 on second chance shots, 10-2 on fast breaks and 20-10 on bench scoring.
