BARTLEY IMPROVES TOTAL WINS TO 633 IN WIN OVER AUGUSTA

FORT VALLEY, GA (November 24, 2015) – Head Women's Basketball Coach Lonnie Bartley retired from women's basketball two years ago, but decided to return to coach his old team this season. After a rocky start, the Fort Valley State Lady Wildcats (1-4) added another win to his record with a 69-55 victory over Augusta University (3-2) form the Peach Belt Conference tonight at the HPE Complex.
 
The Lady Wildcats posted four players in double digest figures and two players with a double-double. Leading the way for FVSU was junior forward Shereba Montgomery (Abbeville, GA) with 13 rebounds and 13-points, while senior forward Katice Williams (Augusta, GA) added 13 boards and 12-points. Montgomery blocked 3 shots, made 3-of-4 foul shots and hit 5-of-10 shots from the floor and Williams made 4-of-10 field goals, one 3-pointer, 3-for-6 at the line and one block.
 
Senior guard Jayme Gilbert (Montezuma, GA) led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with a game-high 17-points and a game-high 5 assist. Gilbert scored on 6-of-21 baskets, 4-for-12 from behind the arc, 1-for-2 at the free throw line, 6 rebounds and added two steals. Freshman point guard Ricarsha Johnson (Thomasville, GA) chipped in 12-points.
 
Kariel Hutt led Augusta University with 14 rebounds and 11-points, while Joshlyn Belcher and Breonna O'Conner added 11 and 10 points each.
 
FVSU shot 35.5% from the field, 27.8% in threes and just 45.5% on the line, while AU hit 29% of their shots, 23.1% in 3-pointers and 55.2% in free throws. Both team grabbed 53 rebounds apiece.
 
The Lady Wildcats outscored AU in the paint 28-26, off turnovers 22-18, second chance shots 18-16, fast break points 10-6, but each team scored 23-points each on beach scoring.
 
Next game: FVSU will host the Lady Tigers of Benedict College in a non-conference match-up on Monday, November 30 at 6 pm.
