LOFLAND’S LAYUP WIN GAME 60-58 OVER MOREHOUSE

FORT VALLEY, GA (February 2, 2015) – Senior point guard Desmond Lofland (Augusta, GA) broke a 58 all tie with two seconds remaining for the win to lift Fort Valley State Un State University (2-17; 2-10)to a 60-58 win over Morehouse College (11-8; 9-3)Monday night at the HPE Complex on FVSU's campus.
 
Lofland only basket in the game counted when needed, as he finished the night with two points, 4 rebounds, 2 assist and one steal. Senior point guard Derrick Spear (Atlanta, GA) scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Wildcats in scoring, while hitting 8-of-12 free throws, going 3-for-6 behind the arc and dishing out a team-high 3 assist.  Junior center Ralph Wilson (Americus, GA) added 13 points, 6 rebounds and senior forward Tyrone Brinson chipped in 12 points, 5 boards and a 4-for-5 night at the line. Senior center Montreal Holley (Montgomery, AL) led the Wildcats in rebounding with a team-high 8.
 
Tyrius Walker led Morehouse with 16 points, Robert Askew added 10 rebounds and Tyrone Brown and Javarius Gay put-up 12 and 11 points each.
 
FVSU went to half down 27-34, while making 8-of-28 shots (28.6 percent), making 2-of-8 three point baskets (37.5 percent) and hitting 8-of-11 foul shots (72.7 percent).  MHC shot 41.9 percent on 13-of-31 baskets and 41.2 percent at the free throw line (7-of-17).
 
MHC largest lead of 13 points came with 14:12 left in the second half. FVSU went on an 11-2 run to tie the game at 58 with 1:05 remaining. Brinson's layup with 2:14 to go closed the gap to 55-56, then two free throws later made the score 57-58. Spear's, then tied the game at 58 on two free throws, setting up Lofland's winning layup.
 
 
The Wildcats shot just 30.2 percent from the floor for the game (19-of-63), making 30 percent in 3-pointers (6-of-20) and 66.7 percent at the line (16-of-24). The Tigers made 21-of-51 shots from the field (41.2 percent) and went 14-of-30 foul shots (46.7 percent).
 
MHC grabbed 50 rebounds to FVSU's 42, with the Tigers outscoring the Wildcats 24-21 in the paint, as FVSU led in points off turnovers 17 to 7 and second chance shots 14 to 6.

Next game: The Wildcats will travel to Atlanta, GA on Thursday,February 5 to take on the Panthers of Clark Atlanta University at 6 p.m.
