ATLANTA, GA (February 5, 2015) –Red shirt sophomore forward
Shereba Montgomery (Abbeville, GA) led Fort Valley State University to victory with her game-high double-double in scoring and rebounds with 22-points and 20 rebounds. The Lady Wildcats defeated Clark Atlanta University 66-59 Thursday night at Epps Gymnasium.
FVSU overall record improved to 8-15 and evened its conference record at 6-6. CAU drops to 8-11 overall and 4-8 in SIAC action.
The Lady Wildcats led 25-23 at halftime, as senior center
Brittnee Hazel scored the first basket at the 18:30 mark. Hazel's jumper with 5:40 left gave FVSU their largest lead of 8-point (23-15) in the half.
Montgomery and red shirt sophomore center Pagie Alexander (Atlanta, GA) led the team in scoring with 7 and 6 points, while
Katice Williams pulled down 9 rebounds. Siera Bubb led CAU with 6 points and 9 boards.
FVSU scored on 27.8 percent of their shots (10-36) and made 2-of-2 free throws (100 percent). CAU went 7-for-34 from the floor (20.6 percent) and 8-of-13 shots from the foul line (61.5 percent).
Montgomery finished 7-for-9 from the floor, 8-for-9 at the foul line, three steals and blocked one shot. Hazel added a double-double of her own 13 rebounds and 11 points, while senior guard
Davina High (Atlanta, GA) grabbed 8 boards. Montgomery and senior guard
Antionna Jefferson (Opelika, AL) had a team-high 3 assist each.
Mykala Jones led CAU in scoring with 19 points and Bubb 9 rebounds.
For the game, the Lady Wildcats made 23-of-66 baskets for 34.8 percent shooting, while making five 3-pointers and going 15-of-27 at the line (55.6 percent). CAU went 28.8 percent from the floor (21-73) and hit 50 percent at the foul line (11-22).
