FORT VALLEY, GA (March 21, 2015) - Fort Valley State began a three-game SIAC (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) series with a sweep as the Lady Wildcats walked away with one game on Friday and a double-header victory of Paine College on Saturday at Wildcat Field on the campus of FVSU.
The Lady Wildcats are 6-14 overall and 6-3 in the SIAC, while opening by rallying back from a 4-0 deficit to win game one 9-4 and an 11-2 victory of the Lady Lions in the nightcap.
FVSU beat out 12 hits in game one, junior third baseman
Ashley Polke led the way at the by going 2-for-4, including a double, triple and a pair of runs batted in and scored twice.
Lady Wildcats had seven different players with hits, junior center fielder
Asia Buckner, senior pitcher
Alexis Ricks, junior left fielder
Hadiyah Walker and sophomore catcher
Tatum Maxwell had two hits. Senior short stop
Kenya Shakoor and sophomore third baseman
DeAunna Jackson added one hit.
Ricks picked up the victory for FVSU to improve to 4-6, while going 3.2 innings and striking out six batters.
Game one Paine scored three runs in the third-inning and one run in the fourth-inning to take a 4-0 lead.
FVSU would rally back to score six runs in the bottom half of the fifth-inning and three more in the six-inning for the 9-4 win.
In the first-inning for Paine, Ashandria Henry singled, stole second, Alandra White singled scoring Henry, Courtney Taylor doubled, McAllister scored White and Destiny Conyers scored Taylor (3-0).
Fourth-inning Lady Lions Breyanna Stanton walked and later scored on errors for Paine's fourth run. (4-0)
FVSU would rally to take the lead in the bottom half of the six as the Lady Wildcats scored six runs on five hits.
FVSU inning began with Buckner's triple, Polke doubled in Buckner, Shakoor walked, Polke advanced to third and Shakoor moved the second on a wild pitch, with both later scoring on a wild pitch. Senior first baseman
Crystal Richmond walked, sophomore outfielder Tayler Chapman in to pinch runner for Richmond. Ricks doubled, Walker singled in Chapman and Ricks. (6-4)
In the six-inning, Buckner reached on a fielder's choice, Polke delivered a big hit when she tripled scoring Buckner. Shakoor singled to score Polke. Shakoor stole second, Ricks singled to score Shakoor for the win. (9-4).
Game two, the Lady Wildcats scored early starting in the second-inning with Ricks double, Walker single and Ricks scoring on a first baseman error. Walker stole third, later scored on another first baseman error. (2-0)
Paine scored in the top half of the third-inning, Field singled; Taylor doubled scoring Field's from first base. (2-1)
In the bottom half, Buckner singled, Polke and Shakoor doubled scoring Buckner and Polke. Shakoor stole third, Richman singled to score Shakoor. Ricks doubled, Richmond advanced to third. Maxwell drove in Richmond and Ricks. (7-1)
Buckner led off the fourth-inning with a walk; Shakoor singled advancing Buckner to third, Shakoor stole second. Richmond fly out to left field scored Buckner and Ricks double drove in Shakoor. (9-1)
Paine's Field and Henry singled to lead off the fifth-inning. Conyers singled in Field for the Lady Lions final run. (7-2)
FVSU's Maxwell singled to start the bottom half, junior second baseman
Tr'Kia Grant was hit by a pitch. Jackson singled and Buckner doubled scoring Grant and Maxwell. (11-2)
Ricks pitched 5.0 innings and struck out four batters to pick up the win and improve to 5-6 on the season.
Next Game: FVSU will face Georgia Southwestern State University in a double-header on Tuesday, March 24 at 1 and 3 p.m. at Wildcat Field on the campus of RVSU.
