Shekiya Tarpkins (Social Circle, GA) scored the game winning layup basket with two seconds left for Fort Valley State's 63-62 win over the Lady Hurricanes of Georgia Southwestern University tonight in Americus. The win makes the series 5-3 GSW way.
The Lady Wildcats improve its overall record to 2-8 and 1-0 in conference play, while GSW falls to 5-2 on the season.
Freshman point guard
Daknequa White (Sandersville, GA) led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 25 points, while hitting 8-of-26 shots from the floor, making four trays, 2-for-3 in free throws and five rebounds. Tarpkins added 18 points, four rebounds and went 2-for-2 at the foul line. Freshman forward

Va'Queshia Hall and Aleah Holden scored 11 points apiece for GSW and Holden led the team in rebounds with 10.
Hurricanes led 30-25 at Halftime, GSW led the entire first quarter by as much as five points, before
Daknequa White two free throws cut the lead to two with 43 second left in the quarter.
The Lady Wildcats tied the game four times in the second quarter, as Tarpkins tied the game at 12 on two made free throws with 8:46 left, then Tarpkins layup with 7:08 remaining gave FVSU their only lead of 16-14 for the first half.
Tarpkins led the Lady Wildcats with 10 points and D. White had 7, with Green and Caldwell tied with four rebounds each. GSW's Chanice Whitton hit nine points.
Third quarter, D. White's three pointer tied the game at 30, but GSW went on a 7-0 run (30-37) with 5:03 to go. FVSU cut the Hurricanes lead to three points four times in the third.
Fourth quarter, A. White two pointer cut the score to 41-43 and Caldwell free throws would tie the game at 50 with 4:11 left. D. White's three gave the Lady Wildcats their first lead of the half 55-52. GSW went up by three with 1:59 left, but with nine second left, D. White's tray put FVSU up 61-59. Caldwell then fouled Shanya Jones, sending her to the line for three shots; she made all three for a 61-62 advantage. After a called timeout, the ball was advanced to half court and from there D. White's pass into Trapkins for the game winning layup with two second left on clock.
For the game, FVSU scored on 22-of-72 shots from the field, 4-of-18 from behind the arc and 8-for-15 at the free throw line, while grabbing 49 boards. GSW hit 18-of-51 shots, went 0-7 in three's and hit 23-of-30 foul shots.
