AUGUSTA, GA (March 12, 2016) – Fort Valley State Lady Wildcats softball team finally put things together on Saturday, March 12 to grab two conference win 14-5 and 7-2 from the Lady Lions of Paine College at Lucy Laney Field in Augusta.
Keeley Winston started on the mound for FVSU and faced five batters, before giving way to
Alexis Spires-Neff in the first. Spires-Neff (1-7) picked up her first collegiate win while going five innings, allowing five hits, two runs, one earned run and four strikeouts.
J. Hines (0-1) got the loss for Paine on 11 hits, giving up 10 runs and eight earned runs.
Keeley Winston led the Lady Wildcats with two hits; three RBI's and scored twice.
Nicole Valcarcel drove in RBI's of a first inning double, while
Hadiyah Walker,
Alexis Pollard and Spires-Neff each scored once and collected two hits apiece.
Jayme Gilbert walked three times and scored three times and
Courtney Winston crossed the plate three times as well.
De. Davis had two hits for Paine and R. Holloman scored twice.
Game two: Alexis Spires-Neff (2-7) went 4.1 innings for the win after relieving
Alicia Jones the starter as she had 2.2 innings on the mound. Jones allowed one hit and two runs. Spires-Neff allowed four hits, zero runs, while striking out five.
De. Davis (1-1) started for Paine, giving up seven runs on 11 hits and striking out six.
Nicole Valcarcel had two RBI's for the Valley on two hits, Spires-Neff one RBI on one hit and
Courtney Winston another RBI off one hit.
Keeley Winston,
Hadiyah Walker and
Alexis Pollard had two hits apiece and scored once each and
Ashley Polke scored twice.
Next game: FVSU will travel to Franklin Springs, GA for two non-conference games with Emmanuel College. Game times are scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.
