FORT VALLEY STATE WINS 37-31 IN TRIPLE OVERTIME

FORT VALLEY, GA (September 27, 2016) – The Fort Valley State University Wildcats earned its first win for head coach Kevin Porter in triple overtime 37-31 over Clark Atlanta University at Wildcat Stadium Saturday night.
 
The Wildcats (1-2; 1-1 SIAC) claimed the win on a one yard touchdown run in the third overtime by junior running back Chauncey Jackson. During the final three plays Jackson had three rushes for four yards, no gainer and the one yard touchdown.  
 
Freshman quarterback Domontay Jones went 14-of-25 for 140-yards in the game, with three touchdowns passes.  Freshman running back Jamari Clark was the leading rusher with 14 attempts for 85-yards.  Jackson added 30-yards on 14 carries and a touchdown.
 
Senior wide receiver Otis Brown caught eight passes for 98-yards and three touchdowns, while freshman wide receiver Jeffery Mack added four catches for 17-yards.
 
On defense, sophomore defensive back Kentron James led the attack with 16 tackles (13 solo), 3 tackle-for-losses (9-yards), one fumble recovered and one pass breakup, while senior defensive back Brian Walker had two interceptions (46-yards), nine tackles (6 solo), one sack (8-yards) and 1.5 tackle-for-losses (8-yards). Sophomore defensive back Aaron Dore and freshman defensive back Camron Young each had one interception.
 
FVSU allowed 408 total yards on the day, while recording 239 total yards.
 
The Panthers opened the scoring with an 8-yard touchdown pass, with 8:06 left in the first quarter.
 
The lead for CAU was short lived, as the Wildcats scored on a 34-yard touchdown less than three minutes later by Brown from Jones with 5:16 to go in the first quarter. Junior kicker Juan Serna extra point attempt was good to make the score FVSU 7 – CAU 7.
 
The Panthers kicked a 42-yard field goal by Carlos Saldana, with 1:0 left in the second quarter to make the score CAU 10 – FVSU 7.
  
EFVSU tied the game at 10, with 8:40 left in the third quarter on a Serna 48-yard field goal making the score FVSU 10 – CAU 10.
 
CAU's Dashawn Blow connected on a 24-yard touchdown pass to Deandre Jackson with 1:33 remaining in the third quarter. Saldana extra point attempt good to make the score CAU 17 – FVSU 10.
 
CAU's Blow rushed one-yard for the touchdown to give them a 24 -10 lead at the start of the fourth quarter at the 14:29 mark.  Saldana kick was good CAU 24 – FVSU 10.
 
Jones connected with Brown on a 9-yard Touchdown pass and Walker grabbed a 35-yard interception, and returned it to tie the game with 2:11 left in the fourth quarter. Serna extra points kick was good FVSU 24 – CAU 24.
 
Jones added a third Touchdown pass to his record for the game, with a 25-yard pass to Brown in the first overtime. Serna kick was good FVSU 31 – CAU 24.
 
CAU's Blow completed a 20-yard touchdown pass to Trenton Earl for the tie in overtime, while Saldana extra point kick was good CAU 31 - FVSU 31.
 
The Wildcats game winner came in the third overtime on a Jackson one yard run (FVSU 37 – CAU 31).
 
The Wildcats will travel to Columbia, SC to take on the Tigers of Benedict College on Saturday, September 24 at 6 p.m.
